The Project:
Wordplay Magazine, the only publication dedicated to the UK's Hip Hop scene—including Rap, Soul, and Jazz music—approached me to create new brand guidelines for their print and digital outlets. Wordplay is a printed publication with an accompanying website and a regularly updated blog that hosts discussions, events, live shows and the latest in UK Hip-Hop and graffiti culture.

Rationale:
Wordplay needed a responsive scaleable logo that worked across multiple formats and devices. I designed a typeface that is clear and easily legible, with a custom type based on the font “Gilroy.” The animated version, that was based on the iconic “Dj Scratch” that is synonymous thought the Scene this magazine represents can be seen throughout their branding Chanels such as their YouTube channel and main website banner, it features a distorted scanned type of the final logo. For social media and other platforms, I incorporated various framing options, using rectangles and circles to encapsulate the figures and type. This cohesive design approach ensures that Wordplay's branding remains strong and recognisable when used in a variety of creative ways across all their channels.
Creating these guidelines allowed me to help Wordplay Magazine maintain a dynamic and consistent visual identity, keeping their brand fresh and engaging for their audience.
