Rationale:
Informed by comprehensive brand research within the contemporary custom car scene, I embarked on a design journey that pays homage to the company's roots. Their visual identity is profoundly influenced by traditional Japanese typography, inspired by the title of "shogun" and Japanese history, which is celebrated for its meticulous craftsmanship and precision in various arts and crafts. The samurai culture, with its emphasis on discipline, skill, and perfection, resonates deeply with the brand's ethos of delivering high-quality and precise automotive customisations.
This traditional Japanese aesthetic is seamlessly blended with the vibrant and iconic neon signage of West Coast customs, which is synonymous with the modern custom car scene. The main logo type is meticulously crafted to mirror the precision and sharpness of a katana blade, symbolising the exacting standards and expertise employed in their vinyl cutting process. This design choice not only highlights the brand's commitment to precision but also evokes the elegance and strength associated with the katana, a revered symbol in Japanese culture.
By integrating these elements, I aimed to create a brand identity that reflects Shogun Customs' dedication to quality and detail, hallmarks of Japanese craftsmanship. Additionally, this identity captures the cultural and stylistic influences that inspire their work. This approach ensures that Shogun Customs stands out in the competitive automotive customisation industry, offering a unique blend of modern craftsmanship and innovative design, underpinned by the high standards of traditional Japanese artistry.
